Like No One Ever Was
A downloadable game
You are going on a journey.
You are a Handler--a being, human or otherwise, who has a special bond with a creature Companion. Perhaps you're a Ranger with her devoted wolf by her side. Maybe you are a wizard, whose small dragon familiar aids them with their magics. Maybe you train a monster that possesses unique powers.
Whatever the case, the important thing is that you share a vital connection with this Companion of yours, and it is that connection that will fuel your journey. The two of you shall undertake challenges together until you have proven your mastery in your chosen Quest. In the end, it will be your bond to this, your dearest friend, that determines your success or failure.
Like No One Ever Was tells the story of you, a Handler with goals and dreams and ambitions; and your Companion, a creature who is your teammate and trusted friend; as the two of you achieve your dreams together. To play it you will need:
- Something to write with and something to write on
- One twelve-sided die (1d12)
- A deck of 52 Standard Playing Cards (Jokers removed)
- Either a six-sided and a four-sided die (1d6 and 1d4) or another way to randomly generate numbers 1-6 and 1-4

I have a question about Spirit and Bond numbers! It's a little unclear how I'm reading it.
The rules state your companion cannot pick the same starting numbers.
If I do Spirit-1 and Bond-5, does that mean my companion could do Spirit-5 and Bond-1?
Or is it more like "Your companion and handler cannot pick from the same number sets"?
what genre or style game is this? is there a trailer or video of gameplay
Read the description carefully. Especially that very last bit.
It's difficult to make an accurate trailer or video of gameplay because this is a tabletop role-playing game, not a video game. They're like board games, except you create a story instead of try to win monopoly or get the good retirement home in game of life or something.
You know dungeons & dragons? It's like that.
Me like it
hey perhaps you should change the cover of your ttrpg, unless you want to get a C&D
I'm working my way through the whole Solo But Not Alone 4 bundle, and just finished this game. I found it to be very entertaining and well-designed; the mechanics weren't overly complex, and the prompts were specific enough to provide guidance while being broad enough to apply to basically any genre the player's looking for.
You can check out my (unfortunately echoic) review here: https://www.tiktok.com/@undercommon_taste/video/7323807245177752875?is_from_weba...
This looks like one of those fan games that look better than the actual series.
I just finished playing a round of this game! I went with something a little more Digimon inspired as prep for an upcoming Animon Story game, and had a wonderful time describing how these two went from being friends to partners!
This game is really a delight, recommend!
Really cool game! I wrote a review of it on my blog, if anyone's interested- https://podofblunders.wordpress.com/2020/12/02/like-no-one-ever-was/
Oh my gosh thank you for the kind review!!! I'm so glad you enjoy the game--we share a quest for the ultimate Pokemon rpg!!!
Hi, this looks cool! Is it a one-player game or a two-player game?
Ah, I just saw in the main image it's a solo game :)
I had a great time playing this game! I made a knight and his griffon companion who journeyed to a large city in the hopes of beating a gauntlet of challenges to improve their skills as protectors of their small town.
Unfortunately, they did not succeed, but they grew a lot closer over their journey and they'll try again for sure!
I really enjoyed the mechanic of drawing a card and having the number represent the DC.
Definitely buy this game to create a beautiful story of companionship and growth!
What happens if you go through the entire deck without getting enough renown? Is that the only way to lose?
Also, is the deck ever re-shuffled or replaced during the game?
Thanks for the comment! Apologies for the late reply!
I would reshuffle the deck of you wish to keep playing, or simply return home with your companion, pleased with the renown you received. Describe the journey home and what your new goals are together.
